Career Counseling

Decades ago, choosing a career was a very different process. Many women didn't work outside the home once they married and had children, choosing instead to focus on "home and hearth." Men looked for a job that would provide security and they remained at the same company throughout their work years. College was not automatic; many found work right out of high school.

Things have changed. Instead of retiring after dedicating 30 years to one employer, men and women are reinventing themselves regularly, sometimes by choice, sometimes by necessity. While skilled and unskilled laborers and service workers will still be necessary, more and more individuals are attending college right after high school, going on for their masters or doctorates, or are adults deciding for the first time to enroll in higher education classes.

Negotiating the complexities of deciding on a career can be intimidating at times, but having some tools at your disposal can help point you in the right direction. Things such as personality type, values, and personal interests, all contribute to the fit between an individual and his/her career.
